NEW THIS WEEK: "Mulholland Drive" opened in 14th place nationwide. The movie was written and directed by David Lynch. It was originally made as a television series pilot, co-written by Joyce Eliason, who was also the producer of the never-aired pilot and the co-producer of the final movie.

It may also be noted that Utah actor Michael D. Weatherred has a small part in "Mulholland Drive." Weatherred had a starring role in Feature Films for Families' "The ButterCream Gang" (2nd billed), and appeared in many television movies made in Utah, including as "Stephen King's The Stand"; "The Man with Three Wives"; "Double Jeopardy"; "In the Line of Duty: Siege at Marion" and "It Nearly Wasn't Christmas." Weatherred has appeared in Hollywood films such as "Crimson Tide" (1995), "A Very Brady Sequel" (1996) and "Senseless" (1998). In "Mulholland Drive," Weatherred plays the onscreen role of the assistant director.
