NEW THIS WEEK: "Joy Ride" opened this week in an impressive 5th place nationwide. The movie's 2nd billed star is Latter-day Saint actor Paul Walker, hot off his starring role in the summer's box office smash hit "The Fast and the Furious."

And "The Fast and the Furious" was still doing so well (after over 100 days in release) that it was ranked 27th nationwide. This put Paul Walker in the unusual position of being featured in both the 1st and 2nd ranked movies on THIS LIST of movies by LDS filmmakers and actors.

DENZEL RESPECTS MORMONS: "Training Day" (starring Denzel Washington as a crooked cop) opened in the Number One spot this week, grossing $22.5 million. Although this movie doesn't feature any Latter-day Saints stars and didn't have any LDS filmmakers in key roles, it is worth noting that in it Denzel calls his partner (Ethan Hawke) a "Mormon" when he (Ethan) refuses to use illegal drugs.
