CREMASTER 3, which is the fifth film in the "Cremaster Cycle" and was written and directed by Mormon artist/filmmaker Matthew Barney, premiered in one theater and took in $11,047 in ticket sales over the weekend. This put it in the #2 spot nationwide for per-theater ticket sales, second only the the Oscar-nominated documentary "Winged Migration" (in 2 theaters). Barney, who is not a churchgoing Latter-day Saint, is also known for being the father of Bjork's child. His five "Cremaster" art films incorporate a number of Latter-day Saint and Utah characters and visual motifs, derived from his ethnic background.
CARMEN OUT OF AMERICAN IDOL - Carmen, well... That's it. Carmen made it to the last six (out of over 50,000 who originally tried out) in the American Idol competition. But when the votes were revealed for last week's show, Carmen was the bottom vote-getter. "American Idol" is the #1 top rated show in the U.S.
THE R.M. PASSES BRIGHAM CITY - This last weekend's box office receipts brought the total box office gross for "The R.M." to over $908,000. "The R.M." is now the 4th highest grossing LDS Cinema film. "The R.M." would need to earn another $342,766 in box office receipts for it to jump from 4th to 3rd place, past "The Singles Ward."

FILMING ON GARY ROGERS BOOK OF MORMON MOVIE COMPLETE - Principle photography is complete on Gary Rogers' feature film based on 1st and 2nd Nephi from the Book of Mormon. An extensive update to the official website's feedback page has been posted at: http://www.bookofmormonmovie.com/feedback/index.html. Rogers writes on the page: "We have just completed shooting The... Movie..." Other details learned from the page: The current plans are for the movie to be dubbed into Spanish and Portuguese. "Volume 2" -- the next movie -- is planned to begin at a point in the Book of Mormon 250 years after the close of volume 1. Each movie will be self-contained. No actors will be carried over between movies. "The movie is being shot and edited in the new High Definition 24p format. The master will then be transferred to 35 mm film for release in theaters." Rogers says that the result is indistinguishable on the big screen from a movie shot on 35 mm film.
"THE SINGLES WARD" TO AIR ON KJZZ TV IN UTAH - Enlightenment comes to the masses. KJZZ will air "The Singles Ward" on Monday, May 5 at 8 pm, Saturday, May 10 at 10:30 pm, and, Sunday, May 18 at 6 pm. Although "Brigham City" has aired on a number of international television stations, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time an LDS-themed feature film that was released in the theaters has subsequently aired on a local Utah television station.
TWO MOYER FILMS IN THE WORKS - From the official website of John E. Moyer, the LDS screenwriter of "The R.M." and "The Singles Ward" (See http://www.johnmoyer.net/): "John's latest script The Home Teachers will begin filming this June!" Also: "Sidon Entertainment is currently raising funds to produce another of John's scripts, Redeeming LA, written pre-Singles Ward. This is not a Mormon movie, but a cross over piece. The goal is for a early fall production with John attached to direct. Finally! Know anybody with a lot of money? Hook us up!"
